Music educators as freelance digital marketers - what would they do?

Thursday, April 27, 2023 by Gemma Wilkins | Digital Marketing

As a music educator, you may not have considered affiliate marketing as a way to earn extra cash. But trust me, there are plenty of ways you can dabble in this world without sacrificing your love for music.

In this article, I'm going to show you how to tap into the power of affiliate marketing, while still staying true to your passion for teaching music.

What is Affiliate Marketing/Freelance Digital Marketing

First things first, let's start with the basics. Affiliate marketing is the process of promoting someone else's products or services and earning a commission for each sale or action made through your unique referral link. This can be done through a variety of channels, such as social media, email marketing, or even your own website.

So, how can music educators get involved in affiliate marketing?

Well, one of the easiest ways is by promoting music-related products and services. For example, you could sign up as an affiliate for an online music store and promote their products to your students and followers. This could include instruments, sheet music, or even online music courses. By sharing your referral link and earning a commission on each sale, you can turn your love of music into a profitable side hustle.

Another way music educators can get involved in affiliate marketing is by creating their own digital products. This could include online music courses, ebooks, or even a membership site where students can access exclusive content. By promoting your own products and using affiliate marketing to drive traffic and sales, you can earn a passive income while still doing what you love.

I know what you're thinking, crikey, Affiliate marketing sounds too good to be true, right? Well, I'm not going to sugarcoat it - there are some common misconceptions and skepticism around affiliate marketing. Let's address some of those concerns now.

Legit income stream

One of the most common concerns is that affiliate marketing is a sc@m or pyramid scheme. But here's the thing: affiliate marketing is a legitimate way to earn money online. It's a win-win situation - you get paid for promoting products and services that you believe in, while the product creator gets more sales and exposure.

Saturated? pfft no way.

Another concern is that affiliate marketing is too competitive, with too many people already doing it. Sure, there may be a lot of people doing affiliate marketing, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for you too. The key is to find your niche and focus on promoting products and services that are unique and valuable to your audience. By building a loyal following and establishing yourself as an authority in your niche, you can stand out from the competition and succeed in affiliate marketing.

These skills can be learnt

Now, I know what you may be thinking next - "I don't have the technical skills to do affiliate marketing!" But fear not, my friend. You don't need to be a tech wizard to succeed in affiliate marketing. Many affiliate programs provide tools and resources to help you promote their products, such as pre-made graphics and marketing materials. And if you want to create your own digital products, there are plenty of user-friendly platforms out there to help you get started.

Remaining credible

Lastly, some people worry that affiliate marketing will compromise their credibility as a music educator. But as long as you're promoting products and services that align with your values and beliefs, there's no reason why affiliate marketing can't be a natural extension of your teaching. In fact, it can even enhance your credibility by showing your students and followers that you're up-to-date with the latest trends and products in the music industry.

So there you have it, folks. Don't let skepticism hold you back from dabbling in the world of affiliate marketing. With a little bit of know-how and a lot of passion for music, you can turn your side hustle into a successful and rewarding venture.
